Support for the Rubios

$50,000 Goal - Can you Help?
$ 14,210 - Raised so far

Donations are needed to help support the Rubio family.

All funds raised will help support the family to cover end-of life care, one last family vacation, funeral expenses, and the immense financial burdens of Carlos not being able to work during his illness, and after he passes away.

Unfortunately, there is no life insurance.

Anything, no matter how small, will help tremendously. Thank you.

Our Rock

Our hearts are broken, and our family is devastated.

Carlos, my dear husband of 29 years, has been diagnosed with stage 5 chronic kidney disease. It's our understanding that he has only precious months to live.

After careful consideration, he has chosen conservative management for his condition. As his family, we are supporting him in this difficult and courageous decision.

Carlos is our rock and protector. We can't even comprehend what our lives will look without him.

We want to make the most of the time we have left together and fulfill any last wishes he may have. Unfortunately, we do not have the financial means to cover the expenses associated with this end-of-life journey, and Carlos doesn't have life insurance.

Carlos and I are very hard workers and have worked full-time most of our lives. It is so important to both of us that we don't rely on anyone else. Carlos is a proud man who has worked tirelessly throughout his life, always prioritizing the well-being of others over his own. He seriously hates having to ask for this help as well.

Unfortunately, things have just snowballed out of control with him not working for quite a long time due to his illness, and supporting several of my kids as they have struggled with mental health. The financial burden on me and my family has been immense.

I feel very vulnerable and incredibly uncomfortable asking for help, and I would not do so unless it was absolutely necessary.

It is necessary, and we need your help.

We are humbly asking for your support in the form of donations to help us create meaningful experiences during this precious time we have left. Any contribution, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated and would go directly towards fulfilling his last wishes, ensuring he is comfortable, and pay for the costs of his funeral and burial.

Thank you for considering our request. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to us during this challenging time.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Bethany & Family

Meet Carlos

As we navigate one of the most challenging times in our lives, I want to take a moment to celebrate my husband, Carlos. He is a man of immense strength, kindness, and humor who has touched the lives of everyone around him. Today, I share his story not only to honor his legacy but also to seek your support as we face the upcoming challenges together.

Carlos grew up in Querétaro, Mexico, until the age of 15, when he moved to the United States. Sadly, there are no pictures of Carlos when he was younger.

I met Carlos when we were both just 17 years old, and our relationship blossomed into a whirlwind romance. The moment he turned 18, we decided to get married—I was six months older and already of age. We were eager to start our lives together and quickly found ourselves expecting our first daughter, Pamala, just a month later.

Being so young and unprepared for parenthood forced us to grow up quickly. The responsibility of having a baby was monumental, and we learned its true weight only after her arrival. With no help from our parents, we forged our own path, which instilled in us the values of strength, responsibility, and hard work—qualities I admire most about Carlos. Just over a year later, we were blessed with our second child, Michael. This news brought joy, but also anxiety about how we would manage.

Carlos carried a deep pride rooted in his Mexican heritage, where traditionally, child-rearing falls to the wife. Coming from such different cultural backgrounds, we had to navigate these differences together. Through hard work and commitment, by the time Michael was born,

Carlos was actively involved in caring for our children. He faced jokes from his family for this, but I will always be grateful for his willingness to embrace change and meet me halfway.

Our little family continued to grow, and Carlos reveled in being a dad. He has always taken great pride in our children. In 2006, ten years after Pamala's birth, we were surprised by the arrival of our third daughter, Gaby. This new chapter brought its own set of challenges, as our two oldest were now 8 and 10. Yet, we embraced the age difference, knowing we wanted Gaby to have a sibling close in age.

In 2008, we welcomed our last baby girl, Carla, completing our family.

Throughout our journey, we have experienced ups and downs, but our love for each other has remained steadfast. Carlos is my opposite; he grounds me when I am upset and always does his best to help during difficult times.

I am incredibly proud of how much he has grown as a person and as a spouse. He accepts our children for who they are and has always embraced me, regardless of my struggles with trauma, depression, and self-esteem. For 29 years, he has stood by my side.

Some of my favorite memories with Carlos are the celebrations we’ve shared as a family. We love a good party!

We all cherish the moments we celebrated Pamala’s Quinceañera in 2011

Michael’s wedding in 2017, adding another daughter to our family - Angie

The birth of Elena in 2020, adding to our family our precious granddaughter.

These precious memories and events will forever hold a special place in our hearts. I am so grateful to have had Carlos as my partner in life for 29 years. We grew up together, learning the intricacies of life hand in hand. It’s astonishing how quickly time has passed.

Carlos' Decline

In May 2024, Carlos fell seriously ill, experiencing severe nausea and an inability to eat. We rushed him to the ER, where doctors determined that he needed to have his gallbladder removed. However, this diagnosis uncovered a host of other issues we were unaware of. Due to his uncontrolled diabetes and various health complications, we learned that he was already at stage 3 of chronic kidney disease (CKD). We made every effort to manage Carlos's diet and diabetes, but unfortunately, it was too late.

By July, his kidney function had declined to the end of stage 4, with a GFR of 18. Despite his relentless determination to control his diabetes, the struggle has been overwhelming. Many of the medications that were helping him also contributed to the deterioration of his kidneys.  Carlos has been feeling weak and unable to do much, yet he has shown remarkable resilience.

By August, his kidney function dropped to 14%, and he recognized that his health was declining rapidly. Having witnessed similar health struggles in family members, he understood that no matter what path he chose, the outcome would not be favorable. Ultimately, he made the deeply personal decision to pursue conservative management, a choice we all support.

Thank You

Thank you for taking the time and effort to read this and to care about our family. For those that are able to give (and those that would give if they could), thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Love,
Bethany & Family
